Simple and strong

Extruded shows its design with one strong, vertical presence. Different sizes, mounting options, and several colour combinations provide attractive possibilities for interiors. The simplicity was not so easy to build, however. A three-way collaboration and a lot of thinking can testify to that.

It was the ribs

Seeing the ribbed cardboard used by architects for mock-ups sparked a new thought in the mind of designer Alain Gilles. For the ribs to catch the light of day in just the right way, their shape and sharpness would need a lot of fine tuning. This meant a lot of testing back and forth. An intense collaboration soon began between the designer, a Modular engineer, and an extruder expert.

Slim and elegant

Always keeping modularity in mind, we based the shaft's diameter on the size of the reflector. This allowed us to maintain a slim shape while having enough room for ventilation. Additionally, omitting the driver inside the design reinforced Alain's aspiration to create an elegant architectural element.

Cone of light

A seductive cone completes the bottom end of Extruded. Thanks to a flood reflector the razor-sharp edge opens a well-defined, wide beam creating a closed zone of light. The light itself also reflects on the inside of the cone, showing a gentle glow on the carefully brushed surface.

“Each cone is manually sanded. This ensures the beautiful, brushed strokes inside.” Liam De Brabandere - Development Engineer
  • Hooked on design

Extruded consists of two other distinctive design elements: the hook and the combination of two cables. While one is a power cable, the other is a steel cable that holds the hook. This custom-made suspension playfully reflects the drop shape of the subtle hook as it wraps itself around it.

Stripped to the essence

Extruded Stripped soon followed the original design. We removed the cone and designed a special front ring. Its sloped curve catches the reflector's light beautifully. And with the prismatic diffuser we added, it gives a nice, softer, and more homogeneous light beam.

"We spent a significant amount of time perfecting the ring's shape to ensure it complements the overall design of the luminaire. It's an element that really defines Extruded Stripped." Wouter Denoulet – Development Engineer
  • Two-in-one cable

For Extruded Stripped, we took the vertical line to the next level. Instead of the original two cables, just one smooth, straight cable can be seen holding the luminaire. We chose a more flexible cable so that it can hang nicely stretched and without any bumps.
