Impulse, a wall luminaire designed by Maarten De Ceulaer, experiments with geometric arches of light. Read how Impulse's story began and how it evolved with the expertise of Modular Lighting Instruments to its final design.
Let the light tell the story
When Impulse turns on, a gradient of light is created by a precise positioning of LEDs, calculated to the millimetre. This produces evenly distributed arcs of light with the outer arcs fanning out gently. The intensity of the light arcs diminishes, by following a quadratic pattern, as the distance from the light source increases. The LEDs are not recessed, yielding an attractive and powerful range of light, up to a maximum of 650 lumens.
Razor-sharp edges
The outer edges have been made as sharp as possible to ensure a beautiful alignment of the shadow arcs. The slightly raised edge on the side sharply delineates shadow lines and widens the fan of light.

Custom-made class
A custom-made, black LED PCB guarantees the classy look we are always opting for. A hyper-thin, transparent coating made of parylene protects the LEDs against dust.
Miniaturisation
We are fans of miniaturisation. That's why we reduced Impulse's dimensions as much as possible, down to a width of less than 10 cm. This enhances the luminaire's abstract form and its extreme architectural design. Having no visible screws and a housing that can be installed with magnets further enhances this look.
